La-Generale Watch Company(1848-1903) Omega's Ancestor

1848: Step back in time with the beginnings of Omega, when watchmaker Louis Brandt opened a small workshop in 1848. The La Generale Watch Company was born, and from the start, Brandt's focus on precision was evident. Using locally supplied parts, the Master assembled pocket watches and quickly evolved into the iconic brand we know today.

From his humble beginnings, Louis Brandt's passion led to Omega becoming a household name producing some of the world's most iconic timepieces.

1879: Louis passed away, leaving a legacy that his two sons, Louis-Paul and César were determined to continue.

The two brothers were unaware they were destined to change the industry forever.

1892: Louis-Paul and Cesar Brandt became pioneers in the field of watchmaking, and under their direction, the La-Generale Watch Company produced some of the most innovative and groundbreaking timepieces of the era. One creation was the first minute repeater wristwatch, a remarkable feat that was considered impossible at the time.

The brothers were forging a fierce reputation for luxury.1894: Louis-Paul and Cesar Brandt's early success was marked by the developement of in-house movement production with interchangeable parts. This revolutionary method of production enabled the company to manufacture high caliber watches in large quantities, setting the stage for the brand's successful future. The most revolutionary model, the 19-ligne, featured a crown set and wound design that allowed watchmakers to easily swap out parts without altering the movement.

The 19-ligne was to become the force that propelled the Omega brand to the forefront of the industry.

1900: La-Generale Watch Company's commitment to excellence has now been recognized with the brand receiving the Grand Prize at the Universal Exposition in Paris - the highest honor in watchmaking. The brand continued to innovate in watchmaking, making its entire collections recognized for exceptional quality.

1903: Introducing the renowned Omega brand formerly known as La-Generale Watch Co. The company endured the tragic loss of both Louis-Paul and Cesar Brandt before realizing the impact the impact the brothers were to have on Swiss watchmaking.

The founders of Omega, Louis-Paul & Cesar, had left an edelible mark in the history of watchmaking. Their legacy lives on in the hands of Louis Brandt's grandson, Paul Emile Brandt, who is dedicated to advancing the Omega brand. Before the brother's passing, the company employed 800 people who produced 240,000 watches annually.

Emile Brandt, now at the helm of Omega, possesses skills in jewelry design, enameling, and sculpture. Omega's future is in good hands with Paul Emile.

1905: Omega is the official timekeeper in 16 sporting events.

1925: At a prestigious art show in Paris, Omega was again awarded the Grand Prize for their Art Deco inspired line.

1930: Paul Emile Brandt created the merger with Tissot into the group SSIH, Geneve.

1931: Omega chronometers receive a perfect score for precision at the Geneve Observatory, outperforming every other timepiece. Additionally, Omega was the first to create an automatic movement that wound the mainspring in both directions, setting a new standard in the watch industry.

1932: Omega was given the role of timing all Olympic events in Los Angeles with their ability to measure 1/10 of a second. Omega continues officially timing almost every Olympic event.

1932: Omega creates the 'Marine', the first retail diver watch. s

1936: Omega receives a near perfect score for precision at the Kew Observatory with 97.8/100. This set a world record that has not been surpassed to this day.

1940s: Omega became the largest supplier of watches to the British forces with anti-magnetic features, water, and shock resistance qualities.

1947: Omega introduces the world's first Tourbillon wristwatch.

1948: Omega develops new sport timing technology using photoelectric cells, measuring precisely when the finish line is crossed.

1962: The first watch in space is the Omega Speedmaster.

Astronaut Wally Schirra had recorded 295 hours in space with a Speedmaster on his wrist.

1965: Nasa invites 4 major watch companies to compete in grueling tests. Omega prevails, resulting in contracts for all space missions.

1969: The monumental event of the first people to walk on the moon was timed with Omega Speedmasters.

1970: Omega is presented the Silver Snoopy Award by Nasa. The honor is considered the most distinctive award by astronauts. Nasa regards 'Snoopy' to symbolize one who keeps lighthearted in critical situations. An award that coincidentally seems to represent the history and philsophy of Omega.

Omega remains a top luxury brand and continues with beautifully engineered timepieces. Omega remains as linchpin in the art of watchmaking. The brand that connisieurs turn to faithfully.

Our history of Omega ends here with our chosen Linchpin title established.
