The precursor to Howard Watch Company dates to 1850. Our Howard Founder from Fusion Timepieces is dedicated to the significant history of 1850-58, marking the beginning of two major forces in horological history.
Edward Howard also founded the watch company that morphed into Waltham.
1850: The history of Howard Watch Company is rich, dating back to 1850 when Edward Howard, a renowned clock maker, and Aaron Dennison, a master watchmaker, founded the American Horological Company in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Their partnership marked the start of a legacy that lasted over a century. The first 16 watches made by American Horological Company were kept by company officials, with watch number 1 designated for Edward Howard.
1853: The company underwent a name change to Boston Watch Co.(1853-1857). In the four years of its existence, despite the name change, the company managed to produce an impressive 5000 watches with 90 employees. At this time, Boston Watch Company was unique and ahead of its time in that they were the only American factory capable of producing their watches entirely in-house.
1857: The Boston Watch company's name and factory are abandoned, and their legacy is carried on in a new facility in Waltham, massachusettes. This fascinating account tells the story of the company's merger into one of America's largest timepiece brands, Waltham Watch Company.
Boston Watch Company's ability to manufacture each movement component sparked an inevitable trend other watch manufacturers would adopt if they were to stay in business.
The Industrial Revolution, the engine for economic growth, was imminent.
1857: The Boston Watch Company, a historic brand that played a significant role in the evolution of the American watch industry. The Boston Watch Company is liquidated and renamed American Watch Company one year prior to Howard leaving to form his own brand. Boston Watch Co. soon evolves into the Waltham Watch Company. The key figure in the brand's history was Edward Howard, whose contributions helped found not one but two important American watch brands, Waltham Watch Company and his own unique brand, E. Howard & Co.
With a legacy like this, you can trust Howard Watch Company to deliver quality timepieces that stand the test of time.
1858: Howard Watch Company is created, producing unique American luxury timepieces. Howard completes his first movement, entirely solo, showcasing his unique construction and aesthetic skills.
E. Howard & Co. continued producing quality timepieces up to 1903. Howard's innovative improvements in his movements included a more accurate quick train, an improved main spring barrel, stem winding, a patented micro regulator, and his watches were the first that were adjsuted to six positions.
With their unique characteristics and fine finishing, Howard movements are easily identifiable and of outstanding quality.
1882: Edward Howard retired, but until 1903, the brand continued producing watches consistant of Howard's meticulous watchmaking standards.
Howard watches from Fusion Timepieces are a tribute to the visionary entrepreneur who revolutionized the American watch industry. Each timepiece is meticulously resurrected and exudes Howard's pioneering spirit, resilience, and broad outlook. With a timely clear vision, Howard created two of the most significant watch brands in American history, and the Founder collection is a fitting tribute to his legacy.
