You might be wondering why Fusion Timepieces chose to name Waltham, 'Pioneer'?

As the first watch company worldwide to introduce interchangeable parts, Waltham paved the way for a new era of precision large-scale manufacturing, making the Waltham Pioneer a true testament to the brand's pioneering spirit.

It gets better. Please continue...

With their massive factory built in Massachusettes in the 1850's, Waltham was an early contributor to the American Revolution with their forward thinking, far-reaching, and all in-house manufacturing techniques. Due to Waltham's immense manufacturing capabilities, the company was able to produce an absolute in-house movement and became the cities largest employer. They even made the hairsping and jewels in their watches. In fact, Waltham entirely created the culture in the city with coffee shops, restaurants, and retailers having watch related business names.

Waltham's progressive business tactics and early aggressive growth were a beginning catalyst for the American Revolution.

A true pioneering company, Waltham played a crucial role in the rapid growth of the United States and was at the forefront of the worldwide watchmaking industry.

1850: The American Horological Company, the catalyst company to Waltham, was formed by Edward Howard (a clock maker) and Aaron Dennison (a case maker) in Roxbury, Mass.

1850: Howard and Dennison produce their first watch. The following 16 watches were kept by company officials, with the first watch remaining in possession of Edward Howard.

1853: The first name change to Boston Watch Company and production facilties moved to Waltham, Massachusettes, where they produced five watches a day with 90 employees. These watches were the first of its kind to be produced entirely in-house by the factory, cementing the company's reputation as a true pioneer in the industry.

1858: Edward Howard leaves the company and forms independently.

1860s: Following the end of the Civil War, Waltham's precise timekeeping made it the go-to choice for the railway industry, a critical lifeline of the era. As the main supplier of accurate timepieces to North American railways and to 50 other countries, Waltham's capacity was a testament to their pioneering duty.

The early development of the United States, Canada, and many other countries was largely dependent on their expanding railway systems.

1885: This year marked a significant milestone for the company as it changed its name to American Waltham Watch Co.

The American Waltham Watch Co. (A.W.W.CO.) set the standard for watchmaking and became one of the world's largest watch brands to produce quality timepices for the railroad, military, and civilian use up to 1957.

Despite the company's tumultuous history of bankruptcies and financial hardships, Waltham stood as a symbol of the great pioneering approach of the American people.

The history of American horology was guided by the great advances made by Waltham Watch Company.

Fusion Timepieces realizes Waltham's significant contribution to an uncertain but developing United States, and suitably named our Waltham line, 'Pioneer.'

Waltham watches are one of the most historically significant and collectible American objects.
